RAM

Wed Jan 13, 2010, 2:32 AM
I'm always disappointed when I do a RAM upgrade and don't get a fanfare and carnival of lights and SFX when turning on the computer again, in this case upgrading the laptop from 2GB to 4GB. Even more disappointed when it doesn't make my pictures better. I mean, that's what RAM does right? Maybe I need to find the AUTO-PAINT function... ;)

Thanks for the devwatch, chief. I figured I'd be rude not to reciprocate! (especially since Gary was prodding me to take up the Saturday slot too)

^_^

ok i've been a watcher of yours for like 3 years or so and i gat to say that each and every time i see your work it amazes me and although i can draw to some degree i would like to be able to do what you do and make my drawings better but i don't really know much about computer photoshop software so i was wondering... what's the software that you use and also what are some suggestions for a rookie like me who is just starting photoshop, any help and pointers will be greatly appreciated, once again you ROCK!!!!!!!!!

Man, oh man it took me a long time to reply, Batman. Sorry about that. After sketching and scanning by hand I mostly use Painter, but there is almost always some photoshop in there for adjusting colours and tonal qualities and recently sometimes a bit of artrage (If you're looking into buying an art package, Artrage has the best value for money you could possibly want - doesn't have the range or versatility of the other two, but for the price, its an ace little program).

From my point of view, I think the best single piece of advice I can give - because I find it works for me and makes my work better - is to get your drawing right before you start painting. Although everyone works differently, It always helps to know where the shadows and highlights are before putting a dab of colour anywhere. Naturally, a lot of that changes when you're in the evolutionary process of the painting, but for me it means I'n not asking a lot of extra questions when I pick up the stylus.

Oh, and loads and loads of practice.
